Don't ask ?s. Just go. Best steak I have had this side of the Mississippi in quite sometime. Right up there w the stage stop and anything else you can find. They have a different way of ordering but it all works out in the end. It was so busy !!! And this was a sun at 530pm. But we only waited about half hour 4 our food / table. I will definitely be back !!! Great grasshoppers too !!!

The boyfriend and I drove for an hour to meet a friend here, and it was definitely worth it! This place is waaaay out in the sticks, so you won't ever just stumble across it, but they were reasonably busy even on a Wednesday night. The ordering/seating process is a tiny bit strange -- you check in with the host on arrival, get menus, and sit in the bar area. You actually order while there, and are only seated in the dining room when salads and the relish tray are on the table. A little odd, but it seemed to work for them. Shrimp cocktail in the bar was good, though the little plastic cup of cocktail sauce could have been served a little more nicely. The salad and relish tray are straight out of, hmmm, 1975? Salad was nothing special, but the boyfriend enjoyed the relish tray. Steaks were all around fabulous. Honestly, I can't remember the last time I had such a great steak in a restaurant. My filet was amazing, as was the boyfriend's porterhouse (with leftovers the next day just as good). However, they were uniformly kind of under the requested temperature -- not quite enough that we'd send them back, but if you're afraid of rare meat, maybe this isn't the place for you. Overall, it was a great meal. Next time I'm in the mood for a drive and a steak, I'll be back at Schwarz's!

Our first experience at a "supper club" ... Really liked Schwarz's flow, appetizers and drinks in the bar area, then called to your table for salads and dinner - never standing around waiting for a table. The food was delicious, service was good and staff were very hospitable.

We just shared an exceptional meal with our friends from Milwaukee at Schwartz's Supper Club. Don't ask why, just go! It's an old school supper club that practiced farm to table before it was cool. They do all their own butchering, and the quality of the meat is exceptional. When we arrived we ordered drinks, our bartender was cheerful and helpful. My whiskey old fashioned was perfect, the pour was generous. We ordered, and waited about an hour to be seated. We were shown into a newer dining room that was festively decorated. Our salads were already on the table, and were a nice selection of greens and veggies. We also were served a relish tray; how long has it been since you've seen that? Now for the main event; my tenderloin steak was amazing, and a perfect "queen" portion. I had it with mushrooms and a baked potato; the sides were perfectly prepared. Hubby demolished his salmon, which he said was delectable with a light butter sauce. This was a very enjoyable dining experience; we will definitely be back!

Visiting town so thought I would try the " supper club" experience and gave Schwartz a try. Brought back memories of dinner out with grandma in Iowa. People were friendly and helped with the order process ( sit at the bar and order dinner, they call your name with salads, bread basket and vegetable plate waiting for you when you get to the table). I tried the petite strip steak and my wife had the boasted chicken. My steak was good cooked to perfection (medium well) and tender. My wife's chicken the large breast was a little under cooked. The waitress apologized several times took it back and replaced it. She comped the chicken without asking. We both a the twice baked potatos the women taking our order recommended. Excellent. did not have room to try deserts.

This is the place you go for fantastic old Wisconsin nostalgia, or you want to really impress your grandparents. The food ranges from OK to pretty good. Load up on apps (the shrimp cocktail is my go-to) while you wait in the bar area with your brandy old fashioned. The steaks aren't bad, but I don't think they match up to the steak houses in MKE. But compared to the prices in MKE, these are a steal. The salad is standard iceberg mix, but the relish tray makes up for that. The servers are all friendly and efficient. You will get a big hunk of whatever meat you like at a ridiculously low price. But you don't really go here for the food, it's the whole experience. It's fun to make a whole night of it on weekends when it's crowded. You sit in the bar area and enjoy apps and drinks for an hour (or more). Then you get ushered to the dining room, and even though the system seems like it's in place to get people out quickly, they don't rush you. So enjoy your time at your table, then move back to the now clearing bar and have a couple grasshoppers while talking with the regulars. It's quintessential Wisconsin and it's worth doing at least once.

Wow, oh wow, the steaks here are amazing. So glad we found this place on Yelp. I can see why it is so crowded! We are from Chicago and these steaks were better than any steakhouse in Chitown. Yummy!

Excellent. True Wisconsin Supper Club. Good drinks at good prices. Friendly workers and patrons all having a good time. Excellent food reasonably priced. Worth the drive!

This place is the best supper club in Wisconsin... and yes that's saying a lot! Talk about fresh food...they butcher their own meats on site and breads are baked by a local bakery. It's truly a communion with Bacchus! Tip: Honestly try the 'Prime Rib Bites' and the sauteed mushrooms they a gulp worthy!

Imagine -- Uncle Moe's Family Feed Bag -- without the funny freedom fries and with cold, sterile service from 5 or more different people. I expected quaint surroundings, pleasant staff, with good quality American fare. Instead, it was noisier than a sports bar with little kids running about and minimally acceptable, non-personable service. Not ok for a date, but fine for getting your grandparents out of the nursing home for a few hours. Contrary to what we expected, we only had to wait thirty minutes for a table on a busy Saturday at 7pm. It didn't matter that 5 booths were open in the parlor room, my husband and I were seated at table 44 right by the kitchen. Blech. The bourbon old fashioned sweets tasted like 7&7s with cherries -- very subpar. The prime ribs were average (huge cuts, bland flavor, served on ice cold metal plates that probably should have been sizzling). But, I was particularly disappointed in the scallops. They took fresh, sweet, sweet bay scallops and instead of lightly breading them to complement the delicate flavor and texture, they beer battered the bejeezus outta them so they resembled charcoal broquets on the exterior. Such a waste. An accompaniment of drawn lemon butter may have redeemed them, but they came with ketchupy cocktail sauce instead. The portions were enormous. I guess that's something, if that's what you're into. I love Wisconsin supper clubs, but not this one. My expectations were far too high (we drove 75 minutes to get here). If you want excellence, drive past Schwarz's to get to Maiden Lake Supper Club in Mountain or Pub N' Prime in St. Germain. Those gems set the standard for what Wisconsin supper clubs should be.

This is not five stars for the finest dining experience we've ever had -- or ambiance -- but rather for the authentic, unvarnished Supper Club experience and excellent food for the price. It's like stepping back in time. You won't find arugula with baby beets here -- think brandy cocktails and hustling bustling service, relish trays and iceberg lettuce salads, big fluffy baked potatoes and steaks to die for. Get the steak tips. You'll only really need one ... it's a little steak, probably 6-8 oz, and really tasty and tender. We didn't have prime rib (which is supposed to be great) or any of the seafood (because..why ? You're in WISCONSIN) and we loved the whole experience. We were there on a Sunday night at the height of the dinner hour and we spent about 2 hours in the bar eating appetizers and people watching ... and drinking VERY generously boozed-up drinks ... but when they called us to the dining room, our salads and relish tray were waiting, and we'd already ordered in the bar (do it as soon as you come in and put your name down at the bar; they call you and serve you when your table's ready and the food is nearly done.) We had a great time and were thoroughly surprised at the great quality of the food. We were bracing ourselves for Sizzler steaks because of the dated decor, but the meat and its preparation rivaled any at a great urban steakhouse that would charge 3x the price. It was delicious and a super value for the money. My husband said, as we left, "Wow. That's in my top ten all-time dining experiences." It's the place to eat that reflects where you are -- in Wisconsin, go to a Supper Club. We can't wait to go back.

[Four stars based on the total "supper club" experience and ratings. 2.5 stars for the steak]. Schwarz's Supper Club is an experience unto itself. Located in the outreaches (country side) of Calumet County in the city of Kiel, Schwarz's has an old style supper club feel to it as soon as you walk in. A VERY large, beautiful and well adorned bar greets you when you first walk in, as we did on Sunday, 4/28/2013 at about 3:00PM. We were shocked to see the bar full of patrons so early. The eclectic crowd, ranging from young families to oldsters with canes, was upbeat, happy and drinking up a storm. Yep - our type of place. We opted to sit at the bar and have a few cocktails; generous pours at good pricing. We subsequently found out that our bartender, "Charlie" is one of the family members that own the place. Charlie is a friendly guy and good bartender, too. When we asked, he kindly explained to us that we should peruse the dinner menu while at the bar. Then, when we know what we want, a waitress would come by and write down our order. We also learned that we could be served appetizers at the bar and linger there as long as we wanted after ordering our dinner; i.e., our table would be waiting for us with salad plates, a Lazy Susan with multiple dressings and a radish tray. By the way, they don't "put in your entree order" until you have arrived at your designated table in the dining room. We had appetizers at the bar: Popcorn Shrimp and Crab Cakes. The Crab Cakes were not traditional and not good; I would definitely not recommend ordering the Crab Cakes. The Popcorn Shrimp was excellent; served with cocktail sauce. Salad to start: Small plate salad with mixed greens. The dressings offered on the Lazy Susan were very good. I thought it was cool that they put a small cup of bleu cheese crumbles on the table. The bleu cheese was strong and excellent. The relish tray was okay. Nothing special; scallions, scalloped carrots, radish, black and green olives and miniature marinated baby corn. I ordered the Porterhouse, promoted on the menu as a 24 to 28 ounce steak. Upon being served, the steak looked like it had been cooked in an oven, instead of a broiler or a grill. There were no singe marks, grill marks or char to the meat. If that wasn't unusual enough, the steak came in two sections; the first, the normal steak (Tbone, filet on one side and NY on the other) and the other, something I've never seen before: a fatty piece of meat hanging off the bottom end of the "T" of the bone, which appeared to weigh as much as the steak. Yes, the steak, itself, looked to be about a pound or less, only. When first looking at it, I thought maybe they had somehow butterflied the steak. I asked my server what was going on, and she said, "That's the way we serve it here. A lot of people actually like this (the errant, hanging piece of fatty meat) part better than the steak." Hmmm. Yes... She DID just acknowledge what was missing from the menu....that your Porterhouse comes with this (errant) fatty chunk of meat hanging off the bone and that the weight quoted on the menu doesn't include this piece of info. So, be forewarned: Veteran steak eaters will NOT like the Porterhouse here for multiple reasons. My better half ordered the Petite Chicken Breast. It was at least a half-pound breast (huge) and was loved and loved and loved. What else is there to say about that? Service: Very attentive and friendly. Even though I was basically thoroughly disgusted by the Porterhouse, I am still giving the place four stars, based on the "supper club" experience here. I will definitely be coming back to Schwarz's to try some of their other entree items that looked pretty good on other customers' plates.

After hearing about Schwarz from the Wisconsin Supper Club documentary my girlfriend and I made a special trip up from Chicago. The bartenders were very welcoming and amused by my plan to drive all the way around Lake Michigan. They confirmed that Schwarz has been a family run business for over five decades. They pointed to the big guys at the end of the bar as managing brothers- the owners wives were overseeing the dining operation. My girlfriend and I started off with brandy old fashioneds and shrimp cocktail. The ambience was a terrific mix of old and young. We placed our order and about a half hour later my name was called and we moved to the dining room. Our table was set with a bread basket and relish tray. The waitress asked what kind of dressing we would like- they serve Newmans Own, the salads were tasty. The main event came next- queen cut prime rib for the girlfriend and a New York strip for me. That's how I started off my around the lake driving vacation- with a pound of Wisonsin super steak.

Everyone has stated an hour wait ??? What we love about Schwarz's is, if you wish, you may request a menu immediately, make a choice & flag down one of their many helpers who constantly walk through watching for people that want to order. You may be called shortly or you can sit with your drinks & flag down a helper in an hour to place your order.......it's up to you. This is why they do not take reservations. IT WORKS GREAT ! The best. Yes, the best. We decided to check out a real supper club on our visit to Wisconsin and we found the Schwartz Supper Club in the book about Wisconsin Supper Clubs. We booked early and discovered they also offered a Guesthouse, right next door, which appealed to our group of 7 since it eliminated driving in an area unfamiliar to us. We arrived at 3 pm and settled in the Guesthouse, which featured 3 large bedrooms and a beautiful living room and porch area. At 7 pm we joined the crowd at the Supper Club, finding a nice round table in the bar for our cocktail time. We had a lot of fun sampling the old fashioneds and great beers on tap. Our order was taken in the bar, which included two orders for special diet requirements, both of which were happily agreed to by the Club. Our table was next to a large window in a dining room that was filled and active. Relish trays were preset, and beverage orders were taken immediately without any wait. We tried the Kendall Jackson Cab, and several other choices. In 10 minutes the pre-ordered dinners arrived. No one turned back a thing. All temperatures were right. Of the 7 of us, only one chose not to order the beef. My prime rib was pink throughout, a result of the slow roasting process Schwartz employs to achieve uniformity, tenderness, and to retain the juices. To say I was blown away is an understatement. This was perhaps the finest prime I ever enjoyed. Seasoned with a special mix, which I believe included s & p, plus garlic, onion and celery, the flavor, tenderness, color and size were perfect. I actually did not eat it all in an attempt to prolong my enjoyment by saving some for the next day, where it lasted only to breakfast. The others enjoyed the Surf and Turf, Porterhouse, Filet, and Spanakopita, all of which, I was told, were superb. I also had the baker. But I find it hard to talk about potatoes when I was so overwhelmed by the truly great Prime. We had a nice dessert and a good coffee before adjourning to the Guesthouse next door. Seldom have I enjoyed a dining experience this much. And, the prices were reasonable, and a lot less than the California rates I am used to. Schwartz hit a home run with the bases loaded. The excellent service, food and ambiance is due in large measure to the fact that the owners are on duty working at the Club, and they apparently overlook no detail. That's how it is done. It really does not get any better than this.

Best steak around! Schwarz's is kind of in the middle of nowhere, but it is so worth it to venture out there. Their steaks are the best I have every had (I like the sirloin tips - I know it doesn't sound like anything special, but TRUST ME.). Also, their bartenders make good (aka strong) drinks. There is often a wait to be seated, but there is a huge bar area and you can order appetizers and drinks while you wait. You also place your order while you're in the bar area, so when they bring you to your table, your food is all queued up!
(5)KJ N.
Never walked out of here sober. The drinks and bartenders are excellent. The food for the most part is excellent. The steaks could use some improvement though. Never seared properly and sometimes overcooked and a little tough. If you spend too much time at the bar, you will never notice though. A charcoal grill would improve things immensely.

First off, I grew up in Sheboygan County and was lucky enough to find this Supper Club at a young age. For that, I have my parents to thank because they would frequent Schwartz's every weekend for dinner and drinks. I stress the drinks, first and foremost, because like the other reviews state there are NO reservations and you must wait up to an hour or more for your table. More on the dinner later, but first the waitstaff and bartenders are all incredible. It's family-owned, so the Schwartz family are all working, typically behind the bar and they make THE best Old-Fashioned cocktail I have ever tasted. If cocktails aren't your cup of tea, try their extensive beer list including their Killian's Irish Red in awesome honeycomb mugs... Once your name is called and order has been taken, you make your way to a predetermined and preset dinner table with your salad or soup already waiting for you! It's like no other place I have eaten at before and again their service is uncanny. Their bread and veggie baskets should be a meal in itself and they keep coming until the main dish is ready for you only a few minutes later. I typically get the Ribeye (about $20) and can''t say enough good things about it, however, all their meals that I have from chicken, to ribs, to other cuts of steak are incredible as well. The only problem now is that I live in Chicago and rarely make it up to this countryside oasis; although, I hope to change that over the Holiday Season as I go back to visit my relatives and make a trip up to Green Bay for the Packers game! You MUST try this supper club once in your lifetime! Thanks, Jake Mitten (son of Peter and Kathy)

Best prime rib on the planet. Period. Drinks are good and strong at a reasonable price as well. Arrive early! It fills up FAST.

Classic Wisconsin supper club

Great value. Great food. Worth the drive. Prepare to wait at least an hour, order some drinks, eat great steak. What else do you need? Their desserts are also very good. I have been going here since I was little, and whenever I come back to WI I make a point of going.
(5)Jack H.
Always great food. Great menu selection. The bar can get pretty crowded during the early evening, leaving you with an hour or better at times wait to eat. We try to get there in the late afternoon to avoid the crowd. We enjoy the steaks. Our favorites are the flavorfull ribeye and the porterhouse. Bring a good appetite with you...and you'll even bring a "doggie bag" home.
(4)John J.
Fantastic, great service, wonderful food. Get there early, they fill up quick. I had the fillet, I wouldn't say I had to cut it with a knife, I just pushed my knife through the steak. The desert was a great ending to a enjoying experience. We'll be back.
(5)Nicholas B.
This place has been a staple for my guy friends and I since high school. If you choose to enjoy this place there are three things you should know: 1) You order your food from the bar waiting area 2) Expect to wait at least an hour before you are seated to eat 3) Make sure you order mushrooms with whatever you order from the bar (I recommend a brandy Old-Fashioned), they are amazing. We typically go in a group of 4-8 people and order a full order of onion rings to share while we get buzzed on a couple stiff drinks. The waiting area can be smokey at times, so I am looking forward to the smoking ban in WI. When your table gets called, you check in with the hostess and she seats you in the dining room where a salad awaits you. My friend Jeff claims they have the best blue cheese ever and I have never disagreed with him. In high school we used to partner up and get the sirloin for two while still trying to look strait (not that there is anything wrong with that). These days I partner up with my wife and enjoy the same choice. We never come close to taking down the 48oz of beef (with salad and choice of potato), but the leftovers are just as good the next day.
(5)John F.
One of my favorite places to eat. Great place for steak and ribs. No reservations taken... may wait a long time, expecially on a weekend. Worth the wait however! Good stiff drinks too!
(5)Mark C.
It's a supper club: large portions of meat, fish, and fried food, and cheap drinks. Coming from Madison, I've found that there are places (Quivey's Grove, Old Fashioned) that better the supper club-type food. However, if you are visiting Wisconsin, this will give you a good supper club taste.
(3)JC M.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Doors open at 3:30, dinner service starts at 4:30 and by 5pm it is packed with a good 30min wait. The food is worth the wait. See the instructions from Nicholas B's post, and there is now no smoke since the ban went into effect, but for smokers there is a separate indoor smoking lounge waiting area.
(5)Mindy S.
An old fashioned supper club......relish tray and all! Steaks are excellent!
(4)Queen K.
Awesome food .... in a wonderful Wisconsin supper club setting. One thing was a little different than any other restaurant I've been to ...you order off the menu while sitting in the bar having drinks and appetizers, then when they call you to seat you at your table your salad is there and the main dish comes out within minutes of eating the salad. Very different but I think it's to expidite the whole process without keeping the guests waiting. Ordered the onion rings because they were recommened but found them just average. But all in all ....I really liked this place! I will surely return if I am in the area!!!
